South Lake Avenue is a major shopping area in Pasadena. But since macy's has temporarily closed down for construction, it's had a negative impact on businesses in this area. As a way to attract customers, Gina Tleel, the director in charge of this district has coordinated some lively and vibrant musical events to revive the heart of Pasadena. My first encounter to this event was on Saturday, June 21, 2008. I came across this event purely by accident on my way to Trader Joe's. Six bands performed live on the courtyard steps next to macy's on South Lake and Del Mar. Unfortunately since I was unaware of this event, I arrived as it was ending. So I only saw three bands. I particularly enjoyed Roadside Junkies and Waiting for 4 Wyatt. Roadside Junkies has an energetic and upbeat solo singer. Waiting 4 Wyatt is a popular alternative rock band featured on MTV shows. I'm usually not a fan of alternative rock, but it reminds of rougher pop. I spoke to the director who informed me that she planned on coordinating more performances in the near future. She recommended that anyone interested visit www.southlakeavenue.org for upcoming events.
EDIT: Since the music event, I haven't seen any upcoming events. Someone told me that it was the music festival that brought those bands over, not necessarily Gina's commitment. I'm not saying that she isn't passionate, but it does explain why other upcoming events haven't been publicized. Although, no where did it mention anything about a music festival. That may or may not have been intentional. I'm not really sure. Listed below is Gina's contact information. She was giving her business cards out to everyone there. Hey, if anyone has an event ideas, let her know.
